Following on from comments made on Facebook, where Robbie from Steeda UK reckoned that over arches were passé  I bodged up a quick visual of an alternative to consider. Bear in mind that the top image with bolt on arches is what we were thinking at the start of the project, when we had the renders done. Latest thinking is to fab out of steel and blend in nicely. But before we do, it's worth exploring options innit?

Well, race season is apparently over on Monkey Island, so the drag-ape has stopped dragging his knuckles from strip to strip and has got his hacksaw out at last. Keeping his plans top secret as always but here's a teaser from his Polaroid camera: Upper & lower mount brackets for the front-front wishbone mounts. Holes are 12mm. Square cut out wraps around the chassis. Top mount furthest out, bottom mount low & in.

Scribblings from the Ape's maths book. Plans for the front suspension showing camber-up on bump. From droop to bump in this plan is around 110mm (the standard 4" for this kind of thing) And if you look at the hub, you'll see it goes from parallel (will actually be a couple of degrees in) to 5 degrees at full bump. Ergo, the difference between the wheel at droop vs bump will always be 5 degrees+

Fresh in, photos from the Spanner Monkey Garage.

Well it seems the race season wasn't entirely over and last weekend saw the Monkey pulling some impressive times at the last meet on Island of the Apes. But finally, them 'Bones are coming together.

The top wishbones are cut. The slugs are finally the right size and I'm getting excited to see some evidence of both plans and work. These won't be finish-cut until the jig is made, but we just thought you'd like to see some shiny Cold Drawn Steel!

The heftier lower wishbone tubes are 1 1/4" OD x 1/8" wall as opposed to the smaller top tubes at 1 1/8" OD x 3/32" wall. Bottom tubes are built bigger and stronger as they are the real load-bearing jobbies. As Spanner Monkey says, we'll "be able to do the Paris-Dakar without fear of bending a bone!" Good to know!

All 'bone tubes are lathe-cut. Not that makes a huge difference with the angle-mounts but important where the slugs weld in. Also it makes it easier to replicate all of the angles involved.

Note: the replaceable balljoints will be mounting to plates. Plates will be made from the same 3mm plate as the chassis mounts. They're not shown here as the original ones have now been scrapped due to a redesign to make things a) less complicated and b) more aesthetically pleasing. I love the Monkey!

Mounts for the bottom wishbones: This pic shows the difference in height between, but not relative distance from, the chassis member, crucial for anti dive.

Bigger bottom 'bones get the sexy shim treatment before having the slugs welded in:

Thinner top 'bones get the slugs turned down to save weight and cos Spanner Monkey likes things to look pretty. I love him!
