Puddle lamp issues

Postby Monkey hanger » Tue Mar 07, 2017 10:51 pm

Guys

Has anyone had a problem with the projected pony image on door puddle lamps? I read something about it on a US forum a few months back, but have now noticed mine starting to deteriorate (the actual projected image). Mine now look like there is snow above each pony image, & no, it's not dirt or lens contamination. Apparently the pony shape is made from a crap material which fails after a few months, leading to a high number of warranty fixes, I'me off to my dealer at the weekend to get the ball rolling.

Yep, everybody. Mine's in for a service next Monday and I've asked them to change it. Ford supposedly have a more durable solution on the way.

It seems it's usually only the drivers side lamp that has the problem - both of yours are going? Had mine replaced a couple of weeks ago, though the dealer took a couple of months to get the part.

You're right, yes, just drivers.

I noticed this the night I washed the car.

I thought water may have got in. Apparently not.

Can someone confirm the warranty is a year. If so, I am taking mine back

Three years I thought. In any event, warranty or not, Ford have a bulletin out on it and should change them both to the new design for you.

Had both replaced by Ford Northampton. The extra bits of light have gone but the image is still out of focus.

My feeling was that the image in the replacement units is not as crisp.

When the car was new, the image was completely crisp and quite impressive. After replacement, it is fairly blurred, and seems pointless. For example the horse's eye is not visible, and the whole outline is quite soft (both sides). If you hold your hand about half way between the mirror and the ground, a crisp image will be cast on your hand. So the focal length is just wrong.

Anybody got a crispy one ?
