Just to be clear, I was not actually at Watkins Glen.

We have been building 7 x racing simulators for a client that were used at a major motorsport event this weekend in their private vip area.

(I know your all going to know which event, but its a paying client and they don't need to know everything about what I do with stuff they've paid for after the event finishes)

They each have 3 wrap around screens as well as the driver using an Oculus Rift so they could experience the full sound without having loans of noise in the room (which I would have preferred)

They were running project cars and the chosen circuit was Watkins Glen (short) as they are an American company and as part of my job i had to thoroughly test the rigs and chose a Mustang (or various Mustangs to be exact) as my drive most of the time.

I now have 7 top end racing simulators running 3XS (coffee lake) p.c's / 3 x 27" screen and Oculus VR on Simtech chassis (modified) with Thrustmaster wheel and peddle sets completely buckshee :D

Awesome.

Fancy lending them out for a MFUK virtual track day at Watkins Glen?!!!

I have a venue if you're up for it!

I know several people who'd be very interested and we could find more very quickly...

yes and no.

lending them out is fine, but two issues

1. I'm looking to sell some of them quickly

2. Looking after them on the day is a right royal pain in the arse. Over the weekend I spent loads of time pampering to people who seem to have no common sense what so ever.

example, "if using the Oculus Rift you have to be in the seat and looking forward when you select start" not hard to understand you would think, but seems I'm wrong.

The Clients, clients don't get that VR sets your position at the start, so if you stand up and look behind you with the headset on at the start when you sit down you'll be under the car and facing the wrong way in the VR headset.

that said its better without VR in my opinion, whats so wrong in being in a racing seat with the sound of racing cars around you?

Also why not race against each other?

I'd be more than happy to help out with a MFUK virtual racing day FOC, but I'd not be happy to deal with a bunch of twats who don't know their arse from their elbow unless I'm being paid.

Please be aware, I'm not calling anyone on this forum a twat

I will have you know i resemble that remark :o

I think you are setting your standards a bit high with this forum if im honest. Think in the low level dribbling, but not constantly range and that's probably us

To be serious though it sounds a great idea

Sorry, went to holiday and there's no internet there. Lovely.

Anyway. Twats. Organisation. Free.

You're right, fuck it.

Although it would be kinda fun. If we could guarantee no twats and maybe run non VR, what do you reckon Mr. Paddy? Small bunch of people, maybe a small cost to cover your expenses or a prize. Chuck a bbq in and we're off.

As long as there’s beer I’m in.

It’s really immersive with VR but not so good for a group event imo

I'm thinking it could work at my gaff. I've got a big empty Tithe barn with power, a big BBQ and an awesome country pub next door. Some of you know the venue already.

How many drivers would make a good event Paddy? What kind of space do we need?

You need about 2 x 2m for each simulator and a good internet connection for multi car racing.

3 simulators/racers works well having the 3 in a Y shape would be very good and save some space, and stop power cables from being an issue etc..

We can pack a load of mattress and fencing around one simulator and bring along a fire crew for Nick.
