What's the warrantee on a UK S550? Wheel bearing gone after 20k

Postby Harley103 » Sat Feb 17, 2018 1:46 pm

Hi folks, im struggling to find in my documentation or online what the Ford UK warrantee is on the UK mustang. Mine is 18 months old, done just over 20,000 miles and it appears my rear left wheel bearing is going. Cant say i'm too happy about it.

I do have 25mm spacers all around i fitted at 10k miles and i know these will reduce bearing life, but 20,000 miles?! Seriously!

I also have the car booked in for a service with Ford on Tuesday. If theres any chance of the warrantee being intact ill whip all the spacers off pronto ahead of the service.

Thanks

It’s three years I think

But with spacers yes you are going to knacker the bearings but that does seem early

Take the spacers off anyway,I wouldn’t give them any excuse to wriggle out of any warranty claim.

I would check that the hub nut is tight. We've seen a couple of cars exhibiting what appear at first sight to be rear wheel bearing issues, but they were both just loose hub nuts. These were at lower mileages than yours too.

In the words of Ford it was a ‘bearing failure’ not wear.

I took the wheel spacers off, took it in for its service and Ford managed to get a replacement wheel hub unit from about 60 miles away and fit it in the same day. Absolutely no questions asked whatsoever, they didn’t even mention warrantee or cost. I get the feeling they really didn’t want to make an issue from one of thier parts failing so soon.

For info though, the rear wheel hub sealed unit is £240 a piece!

On past cars from the first sign of bearing noise I’ve pushed it a good few weeks before getting the part replaced, in this case It’s been about 150 miles of driving since the feintest noise appeared from the wheel. By the end of that the car was all over the shop when you put your foot down. The Ford garage said the part was in a dangerous condition and they couldn’t have let me drive it out of there if they hadn’t managed to fix it the same day.

I guess this was a rare case of a dodgy part that deteriorated rapidly
