S550 Mach 1 engineering prototype spotted?

Postby Twin Turbo » Tue Mar 01, 2016 3:48 pm

Well, they're clearly testing a quad exhaust and what appears to be an uprated IRS.......

Current speculation calls for a 5.2 Cross Plane Crank V8 and, hopefully, the option of the new 10-speed auto. This could be for a very late '17MY introduction or, more likely, will be introduced with the facelifted '18MY. Don't let the current bodywork fool you, all they'll be testing at the moment will be the underpinnings, as they would happily sit under the facelifted car.

Also note how they've chosen to use a Euro-spec 'Stang. Presumably to try and put people of the scent :)

Mustang6G have spotted another prototype that's assumed to be a Mach 1. Remember, this is likely just a drive train mule, so don't expect the finished article to look just like this. Not to mention, this is expected for the '18MY, so should feature the refreshed bodywork.

Certainly sounds better than the stock GT :cow

"We've been chasing this one for weeks and finally captured the first video of the presumed 2018 Mach 1 S550 Mustang mule!

This mule differs from the previous version we showed in several ways. Seen wearing Mustang GT clothing, the mule features an aggressive front splitter with two support rods connected to the lower grille.

The rear of the vehicle sports what appears to be a Ford Racing decklid panel with an integrated ducktail spoiler. As shown in the first spy photos, it also has a quad tip exhaust setup that as we hear in the video, packs a big audible punch.

The Mach 1 mule sits on 10-spoke brushed aluminum wheels in the rear (akin to the Boss 302 Laguna Seca wheels) which are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero 275/40R19 tires. The mismatched front wheels are the ebony black-painted GT performance package wheels. Luckily, we get a chance to see the wheels in action in this video which shows the vehicle launching down the local roads of Dearborn, Michigan.

Even in this brief clip you can hear the louder, throatier rumble emanating from the Mach 1 mule as the Ford test driver gets on the gas."

Interesting rumour......could Cosworth be working with Ford on a new engine? We know they're already modifying the Coyote for use in the new range of TVRs due on sale next year....
