Buying from private seller in the States - advice please

Postby badhand » Wed Feb 19, 2014 12:44 pm

I'm teetering on the edge of buying a car from a guy in the States. Its an Ebay auction that didn't meet it's reserve. I've contacted the seller and am feeling realtively good about it. There's still a lot of research to do, into both car and owner, but its getting serious.

Now my question is not should I buy it or is it worth the money or is it a rustbucket etc. but what is the safest way to pay the bloke so he doesn't pocket the cash and not deliver the car to the shippers?

Do we just have to trust each other?

Has anyone any good or bad experience and advice please?

There are quite a few guys here in the US that will act as intermediaries.
They'll go and look at the car, report back to you on actual condition and hand over the money if both parties are happy.
Costs between $400 - $1200 depending on depth of report you want. Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than losing the whole wad!
Let me know and I'll pass on a couple of names and numbers.
