Quality parts

Postby Spanner Monkey » Thu Dec 08, 2016 10:33 pm

I recently bought a remote dual oil filter housing for my project.
Now this wasn't a cheap Chinese one, it came with 'MADE IN USA' cast into it and was from a respected manufacturer.
I was very happy until I looked closely at it. F**k me, if I'd have ordered an oil restrictor it would have been perfect but as something that is required to flow large quantities of oil  :
The threaded spuds for the filters had internal holes barely 10mm in diameter and were screwed so far into the housing that the flow was cut by half by an encroaching flat casting. If I'd have fitted it as-was it probably would have starved the engine of oil.
It took me over an hour to strip it, rebore and shorten the spuds, and 'flow' the internal passages to a standard I am happy with.

The moral of this tale is, if you buy oil system components (maybe I should have said 'any components') please check them thoroughly before fitting them.

Happy Christmas!
